Hi there - if you got this far, I guess you really want to know, so here
it is...
Our names are Shannon and Vic. We're 32 and 40 years old,
respectively.
The website started out of boredom a few years ago and I think this is the
5th major reconstruction of it.
It isn't much now, but in its prime, we cataloged our travels with photos and
day to day web-cam
feed - long before web cams were even entertaining.
In 1992, we embarked on an eight year engagement with the
trucking industry as
owner/operators of a 'hot shot' trucking business. Hot-shots, fyi, are the
people that will bring you anything, anywhere at anytime, from point 'A' to
point 'B' -
nonstop. That meant coast to coast travel 24/7 for us. After wearing
out 2 trucks
and putting more than 1.5 million miles behind our eyes, we opted for a more
grounded existence.
We had always found the company of gay people that 'camped'
and enjoyed nature a little more
enjoyable than any else we found, socially. We started out camping at a
small
and friendly place called Camp Davis, in western Pennsylvania. It was only
an
hour from our home base in Ohio.. What we discovered there, in a strange
collection
of misfits, was a genuine good time - and good friends. Playing Volleyball naked
was strange, but
it made for good pictures for the photo album! It also made for a feeling
that we'd found our place -
which I don't think we've ever found - and would be surprised if we ever did.
If we fast forwarded to now, we'd say that the years we spent
camping, meeting good people
and wielding friendships that you actually ENJOY - was priceless.
When a campground in Florida opened, we were elated. We
had been looking for 'home south'
since we first vacationed together in Ft. Lauderdale. We immediately took
a spot, had our RV hauled
to Florida and looked forward to meeting more friends in a climate that agreed
with
which ever time we chose to take off. What I did not mention was, that
between
camping in PA and moving to FL, we had camped at Jones Pond in the western tier
of
New York State. THAT was nature's vistas at their best. A small
gathering of people that
appreciated it probably made it what it was. From our deck, we could look
at the
foggy valleys and shimmering hilltops in the morning and witness the setting sun
over the greenery in between. The people we met were gold.
When we made the first trip to Florida to see our new campsite
(after we had the RV hauled down),
we actually thought it was sitting in a storage spot! From the acre we had
in NY to the square footage we
occupied in FL - well, let's just say we were amazed at the
difference. Instead of great vistas, we had
the scent of a chicken farm and the constant foot traffic looking for
sex.
Let's be the first to say, the pursuit of ass is not
necessarily a bad thing, but the annoyance of
having people trying to look through you windows and undesirables masturbating
while you're trying to
have dinner, is, at least, <blech!>! Even if they were 'desirables'
- hey, everyone's gotta eat!
So, after realizing we moved to sex camp, not real camp, we
made the best we could of it - in
fact, we tried to change it into a more respectable place to be. After all,
we then called it 'home'. The Florida Sawmill, as we
knew it (and others perceived it), was a rotten place to be. We took the
jobs of
Promotions Managing - and did a good job at changing perceptions - I
believe. There's a certain amount
of misrepresentation that went on in advertising - but what it advertised was
our vision of
of what we knew could happen - what we'd already experienced in PA and NY.
After many
derailments in trying to improve the image, I gave up. This was never
going to be a place
I would be proud to call home - or even invite my siblings to, to visit me.
Ownership was much more
concerned about the almighty dollar than in actually contributing to being a
reprieve for gay and lesbian
people. It was just bound to be their playground. This just wasn't
going to happen the way we
had hoped. And for those who visited and were disappointed - I do
apologize. The motto of Peace, Love and Happiness, in our minds, convoluted into
Piece of Ass, Lube and A Penis.
So, here we sit in Daytona, Florida - with the kindness of
friends - in a new life of a whole new ilk.
Chapter ??
We just celebrated our 11h anniversary on New Years 2003. We've bounced
around the country, driving truck, for 8 of those 11 years and are now settled
in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Both of us are from northeast Ohio, but we moved to Florida in 98 after
finally saying to hell with winter.
We welcome anyone to Email to say Hey - So,
send us a pic, make a suggestion or just say "Hey".
Thanks for coming by...
